Obituary of Selma Theresa Dowdy

South Plainfield - Selma T. (nee Risoli) Dowdy, 91, died Saturday, July 6, 2013 at home surrounded by her family.
Born and raised in South Plainfield, Selma was a well known and talented seamstress. She prepared the cheer leading uniforms for numerous high schools and grammar schools in the area and enjoyed making curtains and wedding dresses.
She was always involved in activities and volunteered as a cheer leading coach and helped at the local fairs. Selma also was the catcher for her softball team and she was a long time communicant of Sacred Heart RC Church in South Plainfield.
She is predeceased by her loving husband, Lawrence and eight of her siblings.
Selma is survived by her four children; Phyllis DiPasquale of South Plainfield, Robert Dowdy and his wife Angela of Metuchen, Lloyd Dowdy of South Plainfield and Lawrence Dowdy of Freehold Township, and a sister; Alice Gubernat of Scotch Plains. She will also be missed by nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Funeral services will begin on Thursday, July 11, 2013 at 10:30AM in the McCriskin - Gustafson Home For Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Ave., South Plainfield NJ 07080 followed by a 11:30AM funeral mass at Sacred Heart RC Church, South Plainfield.
Interment will follow in Holy Redeemer Cemetery, South Plainfield.
Family and friends may attend visitation on Wednesday, July 10th from 4-8PM in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation, www.alzfdn.org.
