I’d like to offer my condolences to Ernie’s family. I remember riding up to George Tackaberry’s with Ernie and a bunch of his friends while he told stories and jokes the entire way. I have many great memories of Ernie, and I am lucky to have spent time with him. He will always be remembered.

I grew up next door to the Izzo"s on Second Street. Have many fond memories of Ernie and Rosie. They were a great couple, I remember when they got married and lived upstairs from Rosie's sister. Ernie always wore loafers and white socks.
He was a great guy and am so sorry for the families loss.

I always enjoyed talking with Ernie and he telling me the story as how he almost sank the STATEN ISLAND FERRY. He always brought a smile to my face.

I have told this story countless times, and it is a pleasure to tell it again.
I forget if it was my junior or senior year, but we were at band camp up in the Catskills. I was relaxing a bit in my cot before the evening rehearsal. My cot was at the far end of the cabin across from the door. The door opened, and a person walked in. He was just standing there wearing a wearwolf mask. I was like, uh... OK... and went back to reading my magazine. He took a few steps, and then out of nowhere made a full sprint and dove right of top of me! Then I heard growling. Thinking it was a friend of mine (or a nutcase), I started wrestling him and I'm sure I said a few choice words. He was like, "OK! OK! OK!!" Then this crazy guy jumped up and ripped his mask off. And there standing was Mr Lear. He was laughing so hard and his face was so red I thought his head was going to explode.
Mind you, I really didn't know Mr. Lear all that well at that point. Which is why today I am so flattered that he thought I was worthy of one of his famous practical jokes. Then as the years went on and our friendship grew, I learned just how much he cared about all of us Superchiefs. He was a prankster and a jokester, but more importantly, he was a caring man who truly looked out for every one of us. We mattered to him. I am lucky that he was a part of my life.

We grew up with Michael being Friends with Michael and Kenny, Me with Sue , Denise with Nancy, Anthony with Matt , My Dad with Rosie and my mom with Ernie LOL LOL And later to be Two families that merge to One !!! I imagine Ernie in heaven joking and making the little angels laugh, the way he made me laugh since I met him in band camp. I am sad that he is gone, but I thank God for putting such a special person in my family’s path. Rest in peace, dear friend! My sincere condolences to the Lear family.

When I was in high school, I was in the marching band. If you were as well, then you understand about band parents. There were some you liked, some you feared, and some who just helped and melded into the background.
Band parents Rose and Ernie Lear were not feared. They were not liked. They were loved. They were that awesome combination of helpful, supportive, dutiful, cheerful, and above all, fun. EVERYBODY in the band (there were 270 of us, back in the day) LOVED Rose and Ernie.
This past week, we lost Ernie. Now, this is a man who I have not seen much of in 30 years, but his presence in my youth was constant, and in the best ways, appreciated. Ernie had a smile that would disarm and warm everyone else in the room. I mourn him and am thinking of his family, Matt Lear, Nancy Lear and most of all, Rose.
Ernie, you will be missed and you will be well remembered. By myself, my fellow band members and I am certain, countless others. It was a pleasure to know you. Rest In peace, and thank you.

My deepest sympathy on the passing of Mr. Lear. He always made me feel welcomed, at home, and like one of the family anytime I was over the house visiting with Sue. His sense of humor and willingness to help however he could was second to none. I know he will be dearly missed by his family, friends and all those whose life he touched. I wish I could be there at the service to pay my respects, and offer my condolences to the family in person. Please know I will be there in spirit and you are all in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. May your memories help comfort you in your loss. Love you all.

Ernie was a hard working man that loved life. His family and work was his devotion. I spent many days with him in the old truck hobby. Always a joke or story with that gleem in his eye. You never knew if he was telling you the true story or pulling your leg. On a trip to Canada, we had two Suburban loads of guys and he told jokes for 8 hours straight. My son fought just to get in the ride with Ernie. The sickness that overtook him is one of such personality altering that is so sad, but we have the good memories to live on forever. It was a honor to call you my friend. RIP
