Obituary of Vincent Paul Scalera

Vincent Paul Scalera,66, of Middlesex, passed away on June 26, 2018. Born in Plainfield to Vincent and Mary Scalera (nee Petrus), he was raised in South Plainfield and was a graduate of South Plainfield High School Class of 1969. Vincent went on to graduate from Middlesex County College and worked for his family's business, Scalera Bus Company, in South Plainfield. In 1975 Vincent married his beloved wife Karen Carlson and settled to Middlesex in 1976 where they raised their family. He was formerly employed with Mack Trucks in Edison and in 1984 went on to spend his career as a Service Manager with Fire and Safety Services LTD located in South Plainfield. He was dedicated to the South Plainfield Fire Department and was an Exempt Fire Fighter who will be deeply missed by the department. Vincent was an avid collector of American Flyer trains and Mack toy trucks. He enjoyed the quality time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren. Surviving are his beloved wife, Karen Scalera of Middlesex, his loving children Melissa Franco and husband Richard of Branchburg and Nick Scalera and husband Jeff Jacobsen of Fort Mills, SC, his dear siblings, Denise Black and husband Michael of Jackson and Bruce Scalera of South Plainfield, his two cherished grandchildren, Mia and A.J., as well as his extended family and dear friends. Family and friends are welcome to gather for visitation on Friday, June 29, 2018 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00PM at the McCriskin-Gustafson Home for Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00am on Saturday, June 30, 2018 at The Church of the Sacred Heart, South Plainfield. Family and friends are welcome to gather beginning at 9:00AM at the funeral home.
