Obituary of Iris D. Fasano
Please share a memory of Iris to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Mary Iris DeCamp Fasano died peacefully on Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at her home in South Plainfield, NJ. She was 89.
Born in North Plainfield, Iris graduated from St. Joseph's School and North Plainfield High School before meeting and marrying her love, Alfonso (Al) J. Fasano, Jr. They built a home in South Plainfield following his service with the US Navy at the end of World War II.
Iris served as a counselor for more than 25 years with the American Red Cross in Plainfield. Later in life, she was as an administrator for The Hess Group, a family-owned insurance agency in Warren, where Al was vice president.
She was a lifelong communicant of Sacred Heart Church in South Plainfield and a member of the South Plainfield Women's Club.
Iris loved sports. In her younger years, she was a dedicated swimmer and tennis player, and had a tremendous love for horses and equestrian activities. She shared Al's enthusiasm for golf and loved the challenge and tradition of the game. A member of the Raritan Valley Country Club, Iris competed in women's golf leagues and served as a marshal for LPGA tournaments held in New Jersey. For many years, her Saturday ritual included 18 holes of afternoon golf with Al and dinner at the club with their friends.
Iris was predeceased by Al in 2009. She was the daughter of the late Ira L. DeCamp and Mary Eugenia Carney DeCamp of North Plainfield. She is survived by her son, Gary W. Fasano of Madison, NH and her sister, Beatrice D. Meeker of South Plainfield. Throughout her life, she reveled in the company and love of numerous cousins and friends.
In her last wishes, Iris asked for simplicity in her funeral arrangements, which are being managed through the McCriskin-Gustafson Home for Funerals in South Plainfield. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 AM on Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at Sacred Heart Church, 149 South Plainfield Ave., South Plainfield, NJ 07080.
Iris will be laid to rest alongside Al at Holy Redeemer Cemetery in her hometown. She requested no viewing and no flowers. Instead, Iris asked family and friends who want to honor her to donate to the mission of St. Jude Children's Hospital in Memphis, and to the pastoral care provided by Sacred Heart Church.
