Aleta Benson, "Lamour", 62, of South Plainfield, passed from this life into eternal life on October 21, 2017 at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, surrounded by the love of her family. Born and raised in Montebello, California to the late Genevieve Bittenger, she settled in Newark, New Jersey at the age of 19 when she married the love of her life, Harold Benson "Sonny". Lamour worked in hospitality at the Sheraton in Newark before settling in South Plainfield, where she went on to devote her life to raising her family. A devout Christian at heart, Lamour was very active at the International Christian Center and Church at the Gateway in Staten Island. She dedicated her time and compassion to their Sunday School, Recovery Group, and their theatre and arts programs. She was a true believer in the salvation of Jesus Christ and was on the Board of Directors for the TLC Outreach Center and dedicated her time to helping people in their recovery. Lamour selflessly helped anyone in need, from feeding the homeless on holidays- to offering love and prayer to those who felt hopeless; she shined her light and the light of Christ into every person she met. She enjoyed traveling, cooking for and planning family events, and loved karaoke. Most of all, Lamour enjoyed the quality time spent with her family, especially her grandson. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Johnny and Keith Bittenger, and her infant son Caleb Benson. Surviving are her beloved husband of 42 years, Harold Benson, her loving sons, Josh Benson and wife Michelle and Noah Benson and fiancé LeeAnne, her cherished grandson Christopher Benson, as well as her extended family, faith community and friends. Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 26, 2017 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00PM at the McCriskin-Gustafson Home for Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield. Funeral services will begin with a prayer at 8:00PM at the funeral home.
