Obituary of Roberta Joan Corcia

South Plainfield, NJ - Roberta Joan (Barber) Corcia, dedicated wife, mother, sister and great friend, passed away peacefully at the age of 81 on Monday, August 28, 2017 at her residence. Born in Elizabeth, NJ to her late parents Alfred Theodore and Catherine (McNeill) Barber, Roberta, known to many as Joan, grew up in Elizabeth and lived in Newark before settling to South Plainfield in 1969. Joan graduated from St. Mary's High School in Elizabeth and then went on to work a short time at Igo Brothers in Newark. It was then in Newark where she met her husband, the late Pasquale "Patrick" Corcia. A truly devoted wife and mother, Joan was very family oriented and loved spending time with her family, especially her two children in which her world revolved around. She loved fine dining with her husband and especially enjoyed family gatherings. She was the kind of person that would do anything for you and the advice she gave, would make you feel better by the end of your conversation. Predeceased by her husband Patrick in 1991, and by two sisters, Barbara Readie and Teddy Mondi, Joan leaves behind her loving family; sons James Corcia of South Plainfield and Robert Corcia and his wife Joan of Cresco, PA, their two children; Christopher and David Corcia, sister Catherine Sullivan of Newton Square, PA, brother-in-law Vinny Corcia of Newark, ten wonderful nieces and nephews, several great nieces and nephews and four great-great nephews. Visitation will take place at McCriskin-Gustafson Home for Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ 07080 on Friday, September 1, 2017 from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm. On Saturday, September 2, 2017, family and friends are invited to gather to the Church of the Sacred Heart in South Plainfield for a 10:00 am Mass of Christian Burial. Joan will be laid to rest beside her husband in the family plot of St. Gertrude Cemetery in Colonia.
