South Plainfield - John C. Tapscott, 65, died Friday July 29, 2016 at JFK Medical Center in Edison.
Born in Terre Haute, Indiana, to Glenn and Mary Emaline Tapscott, John grew up in Denver, Colorado, where his family moved while he was still a baby. There, he lost his father, when John was less than two years old, and was raised by his widowed mother and his five older brothers and sisters. He settled in South Plainfield in, 1978.
An honorable discharged veteran of the United Stated Army, John served our county during the Vietnam War. On 29 May 1971, he married Victoria ("Vicki") Angela Maria Pytell in South Amboy, New Jersey. John and Vicki spent their married lives in New Jersey, where John received BS degrees in Computer Science and in Social Cultural Anthropology from Lawrence College, Rutgers University and worked as a computer analyst.
John was involved with several local organizations. He was a member of the Edison Moose Lodge, South Plainfield Elks, Piscataway American Legion and former commander of the VFW in South Plainfield. He was also a Cootie. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing the guitar.
He is predeceased by his wife, Victoria who died in September 2006, his brother James Tapscott and his parents: Mary Tapscott and Glen D. Tapscott. surviving are his brother Robert Tapscott and his wife, Mary Francis, (Albuquerque New Mexico); William Tapscott, and his wife, Nyla (Corpus Christi, Texas); Mary Anne McKenzie and husband, Russ (Lakewood Colorado); sister, Margaret Jacot (Westminster, Colorado.)
Also surviving is sister in law, Elizabeth Tapscott: brother and sister in law, Bob and Kathy McGovern of Old Bridge. He is also survived by his nieces: Kirsten LeBlanc, Anderlynn Martin, Regan Holovacko and his godchild, Amy Cimino: nephews; Michael, William, James and David Tapscott, Josh Holtzinger, Jeff Jacot and Shawn McGovern and several great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will begin on August 3, 2016 at 10:30AM in the McCriskin - Gustafson Home For Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield NJ 07080.
Cremation will be held privately.
Family and friends may attend visitation on August 2, 2016 from 2-4PM & 7-9PM in the funeral home.
