South Plainfield -Frederick C. Eyer, 97, died on Friday, September 19, 2014 in the Brighton Gardens of Edison Assisted Living. Born and raised in the Bronx, NY, Mr. Eyer settled to South Plainfield in the early 1950's. While growing up in the Bronx during the 1920's & 1930's, Fred was fortunate enough to work the turnstiles at Yankees Stadium. As he followed his favorite team throughout the decades, the New York Yankees, his favorite player became none other than Derek Jeter. A Veteran of the U.S. Army, Fred served during WWII in the Asiatic Pacific Theater and was honorably discharged in March 1946. Upon entering the workforce, Mr. Eyer worked as a salesman for the former United Shoe Machinery which later became the Emhart Corp., retiring in 1985. He enjoyed crossword puzzles in New York Times and Daily News but his greatest enjoyment were his grandchildren. He is predeceased by his wife the late Josephine who died in 2005. Surviving are his two children, Joan Dudas and her husband Michael of South Plainfield and Frederick C. Jr and his wife Donna of Edison and his two grandchildren, Megan Dudas and Frederick C. III.
