Obituary of Dominic J. Valentino

South Plainfield - Dominic "Val" J. Valentino, 84, died Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at JFK Medical Center in Edison. Val was born to the late Anthony and Elvira in Plainfield and was a life long resident of South Plainfield. He was a faithful communicant of Sacred Heart RC Church and a member of the South Plainfield Knights of Columbus Council 6203. Mr. Valentino served state side with the U.S. Airforce during the Korean Conflict. He worked as a technical illustrator and a computer operator for Mack Trucks for nearly 40 years prior to retirement. An avid reader, Val liked working with his hands. He enjoyed gardening, bag pipes and wood working, particularly making furniture. Mr. Valentino also enjoyed traveling on the Delta Queen River Boat with his best friend and wife of 61 years, Louise. He will always be remembered as a supportive family man and a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. He is predeceased by his parents and his infant daughter Katherine. In addition to his wife Louise, Val is survived by his daughter Elaine Somers and husband Robert Jr. and his son Patrick Valentino and wife Barbara all of South Plainfield, his brother Joseph Robert and his wife Jacqueline of York, M.E. and his four adored grandchildren; Elizabeth, Margaret and Joseph Valentino and Meghan Collins. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at 10AM in Sacred Heart RC Church, 149 South Plainfield Ave., South Plainfield, NJ 07080. Entombment will follow in Holy Redeemer Cemetery Mausoleum in South Plainfield. A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2014 from 1-3:30PM in the McCriskin - Gustafson Home For Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Ave., South Plainfield NJ 07080. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
