Edison - Walter E. Steinbeck, 83, died on Saturday, December 29, 2012 in the Haven Hospice at JFK Medical Center in Edison. Born and raised in Dunellen, Walter settled in Edison 56 years ago. For 44 years, Walter was employed at the former Motor Machine Company in Edison working his way up the ranks, retiring as Plant Manager. Mr. Steinbeck served in the National Guard for 10 years and he was a member of the 1st Presbyterian Church of Metuchen for 49 years. An avid traveler, Walter along with his wife Betty, enjoyed traveling the world. He is predeceased by a brother Richard Steinbeck and a sister in-law Marvel Rudzik. Surviving are his beloved wife Betty (Garretson), his two children, Dr. Wayne Steinbeck and his wife Victoria of Scotch Plains and Dawn and her husband Dr. Deniz Terry of Cohoes, NY He is also survived by his three grandchildren, Lauren Steinbeck and Lynn and Michelle Terry and his sister Ruth Devine and her husband Richard of Bridgewater. Also surviving are two sisters in-law; Peggy Steinbeck and Alva and her husband Dr. James Godderz, a brother in-lawJohn Rudzick and several nieces and nephews. Visitation hours will be 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM on Wednesday, January 2, 2013 in the McCriskin - Gustafson Home Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Ave., South Plainfield, NJ 07080. Funeral services for the immediate family will follow at 11:00 AM in the funeral home. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery, Scotch Plains.
