Obituary of Isabella B. Harkey

South Plainfield - Isabella B. Harkey, 95, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family.
Born in Scotland, Isabella immigrated to the United States at the age of 8 after a 21 voyage across the ocean. She was raised and had resided in Newark prior to settling to South Plainfield in 1953.
A former switch board operator for Bell Atlantic, Isabella retired in 1983 from the South Plainfield BOE where she worked as a cafeteria aid having worked in Riley and Kennedy Schools.
She loved to knit, play the organ and spending time with her grandchildren. Isabella also enjoyed her sweets and baking for the family, specifically shortbread and dumplings.
Predeceased by her husband; William, two sons, William A. and Alan J. Harkey; sister, Betty Kennedy and nephew, Jimmy Kennedy.
Surviving are her three granddaughters, Tracey Harkey, Amy Chatel ( Harkey ) and Cheryl ( Andy Pearson ) Harkey; nieces, Joyce Walton and Carol Smith, three great grandchildren; Tyler, David and Ashleigh and the family dog; Barkley.
Funeral services will begin on Friday, November 6, 2015 at 10:30 AM in the McCriskin - Gustafson Home For Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue South Plainfield NJ 07080 followed by interment in Hillside Cemetery, Scotch Plains.
Family and friends may join together for visitation on Thursday from 6-9PM in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the South Plainfield Recuse Squad, 2520 Plainfield Ave., South Plainfield, NJ 07080.
