Beatrice Kuhlthau Danyo --- Lifetime Volunteer
Bea Danyo passed away at JFK Hartwyck at Cedar Brook in Plainfield on March 26, 2015 at the age of 91. She was one of seven children born to Philip Kuhlthau and Anna (Weber) Kuhlthau and lived her entire life in Plainfield and South Plainfield.
A graduate of Plainfield High School, Class of 1941, she was employed for 9 years as a secretary by The Walker Turner Co. of Plainfield. Her career continued at several local law firms; Fred Hummel Plumbing, Boynton Oil; and United National Bank (Plainfield Trust Co).
Bea was a lifelong volunteer, starting at an early age as a school monitor. During World War II she served as a Street Air Raid Warden as well as an Airplane Spotter on the roof of the old PHS. She also volunteered at Mobile Meals of Plainfield; TheLearning for Life Program for Seniors; Star Fish Food Bank; Knitting for Seniors; and for 33 years was Assistant Treasurer of United Church of Christ, which she was an active member.
Bea earned her name to fame playing girl's semi-pro softball for Walker Turner and IBEW teams in her youth. An outstanding pitcher, she was recruited to play pro-ball at the age of 21, but declined. She was inducted into the New Jersey Softball Hall of Fame some years later.
Predeceased by her husband, Joseph Danyo, she is survived by sons Steven of South Plainfield and Joseph (Daria) of Cherry Hill, NJ and grandchildren Michael and Chelsea Danyo; also by two sisters, her twin, Bertha Schimmel of Maryland, and Alice Lester of North Plainfield, and a sister-in-law, Mary Kassay of Hunterdon, NJ.
Cremation services were held privately.
A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 11th , 2015 at 10am in the United Church of Christ, W.7th St, Plainfield.
Internment of her cremated remains will follow at Hillside Cemetery.
Memorial donations in her memory may be made to Star-Fish Food Bank of Plainfield.
