Jeanette "Jan" Maher
Loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother
Surrounded by her loving children, Jeanette "Jan" Mondello Maher, 77, prayerfully entered the Kingdom of God in peace, on Monday, July 4, 2011, at her home.
Born in Brooklyn, NY, she resided in Plainfield, NJ, for most of her life, graduating from Plainfield High School.
She worked at Mack Trucks, Saint Bernard's Rectory, and retired from AT&T/Lucent in Berkeley Heights. She settled in South Plainfield in 1998.
Jan's passion for life was serving others through various charities, including: Center for Hope in Scotch Plains, The Hope Chest in Westfield, St. Mary's Soup Kitchen in Plainfield (also known as St. Mary's Dinner Program), Park Hotel in Plainfield, Starfish Food Bank in Plainfield, and the Listening Program at Franklin School. Her hobbies included watching her NY Giants, reading books on the beach, and being an active member of many prayer and Bible study groups.
Jan is predeceased by her husband, Joe, parents, Carlo and Jean Mondello and her sister, Rosemary Falzarano.
She is survived by her children and their spouses: Joseph Maher Jr & Marion O'Leary from Haddonfield/Ireland; Mary Ann and Joseph Simpson of Barnegat, Patty Lattoz of South Plainfield, Ed Maher & Donna Sherbo of Point Pleasant Beach, Terry and Jay Gomes of Old Bridge; two brothers, Carl Mondello of Hurley, NY, and James Mondello of Palm City, Florida. Jan also leaves behind nine treasured grandchildren: Joey and Kimberly Simpson, Jon and Dylan Maher, Cory Limone, Joey and Caitlin Sherbo, Nicole and Jason Gomes.
A celebration service will be held on Friday, July 8, 2011 at 10:00 AM in the Stonecrest Community Church, One Frederick Road, Warren, NJ 07059.
Committal services will be held privately.
Family and friend may attend the visitation hours on Thursday, July 7, 2011 from 2-4 & 7-9 PM in the McCriskin - Gustafson Home For Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Ave., South Plainfield, NJ. 07080
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made in her memory to St. Mary's Dinner Program, C/O 516 West Sixth Street, Plainfield, NJ. 07060.
A Memorial Tree was planted for Jeanette
