Obituary of Cathy Chyz

Cathleen Elizabeth Chyz, age 49, died at Robert Wood Johnson's Rahway Hospital, on November 28, 2015, in the presence of her devoted sister, Cindy and niece, Danielle. Cathy was born on April 20, 1966, in New Brunswick, New Jersey, daughter of Fred and Joyce Chyz. Cathy grew up in Middlesex, NJ, and graduated with the Class of 1984 from Middlesex High School. She worked in the banking industry and retail industry before she became diagnosed with cancer in 2002. Cathy was an artist in her spare time who liked to piece things together and was quite mechanically inclined. She loved to garden, read true crime books and listen to paranormal radio programs. She loved the beach and enjoyed trips to Florida and to Disney World. She loved kids, becoming a trusted babysitter to Lauren and Kristina, and being a devoted aunt to Kelsy and Alexis. Cathy held a special place in her heart for her cats, most notably her "Baby Cat" who was by her side for 14 years and often visited her at the hospital. She singlehandedly saved the lives of Baby Cat, Kitty Kitty, Fluff and her twins: Luke and Leia. None would be alive today without her caring and her intervention. We believe that same fighting spirit she displayed helped her in her own struggle to get well and stay alive not only these past 9 months, but in her last 13 years since her cancer diagnosis. Cathy is survived by her loving sister, Cindy Casteel, and husband Peter, of Middlesex, NJ; her brother Fred Chyz III, and wife Cori, her nieces Kelsy and Alexis Chyz, of Somerset, NJ; her close cousin who was like a brother to her: David Dellecker, and wife Donna, his children Danielle and Matthew Dellecker, of Harmony, NJ. Her parents, Fred Chyz, Jr., and Joyce Dellecker Chyz, preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by all four of her grandparents: her maternal grandparents, George and Helen Dellecker, her paternal grandparents, Fred and Elizabeth Chyz . Calling hours will be held on Wednesday December 2, 2015 from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm at the Middlesex Funeral Home, located at 528 Bound Brook Rd, Middlesex, NJ 08846. Additional visitation the following morning, Thursday December 3, 2015, at 10:00 am at the Middlesex Funeral Home, followed by services at 11:00 am. Burial will be at Bound Brook Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Plainfield Area Humane Society would be appreciated.
