Obituary of Mary Ann Sonnenfeld

Mary A. Sonnenfeld South Plainfield - Mary A. (nee Floro) Sonnenfeld, 88, passed away peacefully at her home on January 7, 2011 with her family at her side. Born in Brooklyn, NY, She grew up in Bellerose, Long Island and settled to South Plainfield in 1956. Working as a bookkeeper for most of her life, Mary initially worked for Unexcelled Fireworks in NYC during WWII and later began a career at the former Tepper's Department Store in Plainfield, NJ. She began working part time as a gift wrapper and progressed over the years to payroll manager where she worked until the store's closing. She and her beloved husband of 62 years, Frederick, were faithful long time communicants of Sacred Heart RC Church in South Plainfield. In addition, Mary had a skillful and creative ability to sew and enjoyed crocheting. She was also a wonderful cook, excellent baker and made the best pies. Her husband Frederick died on November 17, 2010. She is also predeceased by her siblings, Agnes Mott, Ann Santelli, Bruno Floro and Salvatore Floro. Surviving are her two daughters and their husbands, Kathy and Michael Wozniak of South Plainfield, Joan and Brian McCormack of Bound Brook, a son and his wife, Mark and Maryann of East Windsor and a sister, Florence Brosnan of Jensen Beach, Fl. Also surviving are two granddaughters, Jennifer Luizza and her husband, Charlie and Caitlin McCormack and three great grandchildren, Julianna, Charlie and Sofia. Funeral services will begin on Monday, January 10, 2011 at 9:30 AM in the McCriskin - Gustafson Home For Funerals 2425 Plainfield Ave. South Plainfield, NJ 07080 followed by a 10:00 AM funeral mass in Sacred Heart RC Church. Interment will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Scotch Plains, NJ. Visitation will be held on Monday, prior to mass, from 8:30 AM until 9:30 AM in the funeral home.
