Devoted Husband, Father, Grandfather & Uncle
South Plainfield - Stanley Morris, 83 of South Plainfield passed peacefully in his home on Monday, January 29, 2007, surrounded by his devoted family.
Born at home in Jersey City on September 2, 1923. He attended PS 20 Elementary School and graduated at the age of 16 from Henry Snyder High School in Jersey City. He attended New York University School of Commerce part-time before joining the U. S. military in 1943. A veteran of World War II Stanley served with the US Army Air Force's 583rd Material Squadron and received several service medals including the American Service Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Service Medal, World War II Occupation Medal, World War II Japan Occupation Clasp, World War II Victory Medal, Good Conduct Metal and Bronze Service Star. After being honorably discharged in 1946, he returned to NYU full-time, graduating cum laude with a BS in Economics.
After college, he began his career in insurance with American Home Life of Newark, NJ, where he met the former Alice Christine Fischer of East Orange, NJ. American Home Life merged with American International Group and Mr. Morris continued to work as an executive in the New York, NY office until his retirement in 1986.
In addition to his wife, Alice, Mr. Morris is predeceased by his parents, Annie and Hugh Morris; his sister, Olwen; and two brothers, Richard and Arthur.
He is survived by his brother Edward and his wife, Ruth of Whippany; his children, Alice Kalman and her husband, Walter, of South Plainfield, Charles and his wife, Kathy of Clarksburg, Richard and his wife, Maria, of Cream Ridge, Kathy Decker and her husband, Walter of Howell, Leslie Carlson and her husband, Dewey, of Chester, Thomas, of Piscataway, Susan Dezmin and her husband, Joseph of South Plainfield, and John, of South Plainfield; his grandchildren, Allison, Meredith, Michele and Laquan Kalman, Charles, Jr. And Jonathan Morris, Christina Morris, 1st Lieutenant William and Nicole Decker, Connor Morris, and Joseph, Jr., Keith and Michael Dezmin as well as many other loving relatives.
Funeral services are private and under the direction of the McCriskin Home for Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Ave., South Plainfield.
Interment will be held in Hillside Cemetery, Scotch Plains
Condolences may be sent to his family at his home.
