Elba Berrios South Plainfield - Elba Berrios (nee Candelario), 80, died on Monday, January 24, 2011 at the Runnells Specialized Hospital in Berkeley Heights. Born and raised in Puerto Rico, Elba came to the United Sates in 1949. She lived in New York City for a few years, before moving around various places on the east coast. Elba had spent most of her time in Jackson before moving to Edison since 1982.. A graduate of Kean University in Union, Elba earned her Bachelor's Degree in Spanish Education. She was a professional seamstress who made her children's clothing and curtain's for her home. She worked as a City Inspector for the New York City Housing Authority under former Mayor David Dinkins in New York and was a former member of Faith Fellowship Ministries World Outreach Center in Sayreville. Most importantly, she raised her family on her own and loved to share Jesus with her family and friends. Elba was known as a prayer warrior and street evangelist. She is predeceased by her husband William Sr. who died in 1969 and her three siblings. Surviving are her three daughters; Brenda Berrios of South Plainfield, Mary Anne Guzman and her husband Frank of North Plainfield, and Vera M. Jackson and her husband Kevin of Milltown, her son William Jr. and his wife Linda of Bordentown, 5 grandchildren; Nicole, Billy, Danielle Guzman, and Sarah and Kevin Jackson Jr. and her six siblings. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, January 28, 2011 beginning 11:30am in the McCriskin-Gustafson Home For Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ 07080. Interment will be in Hillside Cemetery, Scotch Plains. Visitation will be held in the funeral home on Thursday, January 27, 2011 from 7-9pm and on Friday from 11:00am until the service time.
