South Plainfield - Joseph S. Muglia, 78, died on Wednesday, February 18, 2009 at Beth Israel Medical Center in Newark.
Born in New York City, He has been a life long resident of South Plainfield.
A graduate of North Plainfield high school, Joseph continued his education at Oklahoma University where he received a B.S. in Pharmacy. As a veteran of the US Air Force, Joseph served state side as a Second Lieutenant from 1953 -1955.
Upon his discharge from the armed services, he began his career as a registered pharmacist. His career spanned over 40 years, working mainly in sales and for Tenneco in Piscataway before his retirement in 1998.
A long time communicant of Sacred Heart RC Church in South Plainfield, Joseph has been serving as an usher for many years. In addition, Joseph is a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus Watchung Council # 552 and has served with their color guard.
Joseph is also a former democratic councilman for borough of South Plainfield who honorably served for several years in the 1970's.
Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Clara Ann (McGuire) and his four children, Dr. Jennie Muglia and her husband, Randall Swanlund of Barrington, Rhode Island, Anna C. Perry and her husband, Brad of Montgomery, NY., Dr. Peter Muglia and his wife Julia of Bridgewater and Elizabeth Noonan and her husband, Robert of Montgomery Township, NJ.
Also surviving are his five grandchildren, Preston, Owen, Thomas, Nicole and Amanda.
Funeral services will be held on Monday. February 23, 2009 at 9:15 AM in the McCriskin - Gustafson Home For Funerals 2425 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ 07080, followed by a 10:00 AM funeral mass in Sacred Heart RC Church, South Plainfield.
Entombment will follow in Holy Redeemer Cemetery Mausoleum, South Plainfield.
Family and fiends may attend the visitation hours on Sunday, February 22, 2009 from 1-5 PM in the funeral home.
