Obituary of Gary T. Muccigrossi

Gary T. Muccigrossi South Plainfield - Gary T. Muccigrossi, 46, died on Wednesday September 3, 2008 at Columbia Presbyterian - Milstein Building in NYC with his wife and son at his side. Gary was born in Plainfield, NJ to Margaret (Camplatano) & the late Nicolas in 1962. He grew up in Plainfield and was a graduate of Plainfield High School. He settled to South Plainfield in 1987. As a graduate of Kean College in Union, Gary earned his degree in Public Administration and Criminal Justice and had worked initially for the Probation Department of Middlesex County. He then entered the Police academy and became a Plainfield Police Officer where he worked for 5 years before transferring to the South Plainfield Police Department. While with the SPPD, he worked as a patrolman, traffic officer, detective and served on the SP honor guard. Gary retired in 2004 after a double lung transplant due to exposure of chemicals while responding to the call of duty. After a successful operation and rehabilitation, Gary became a Certified Personal Trainer and operated " Body Fit." And most recently had been assisting at the Public Defenders Office in New Brunswick for Middlesex County. He was a member of the AFPA and had coached basketball for the So. Plainfield Recreation. Surviving are his beloved wife, Gina (Ferraro), his dear son, Anthony, his mother, Margaret, his brothers, Frank & Robert and his sister, Maureen Pratt. Also surviving are numerous extended family and friends. Funeral services will begin on Monday, September 8, 2008 at 9:15 AM in the McCriskin -Gustafson Home For Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ 07080 followed by a 10:00 AM funeral mass in Sacred Heart RC Church, South Plainfield, NJ 07080. Interment will follow in Holy Redeemer Cemetery, South Plainfield, NJ 07080. Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 6, 2008 from 7-9 PM & Sunday, September 7, 2008 from 2-4 PM & 7-9 PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be made to his son, Anthony's education fund, C/O Gina Muccigrossi, 2425 Plainfield Ave., South Plainfield, NJ 07080. The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the doctors and staff of the Milstein Building for all they have done, both at the time of his initial operation and have continued during these past few trying days
