George T. Bishara, Sr
World War II Veteran
Plainfield, NJ - George T. Bishara, 83, a lifelong resident on Plainfield, passed away on Sunday, March 1, 2009 with his loving family by his side.
George was a veteran of World War II having served in the US Army in the European Theatre of War as a tank commander with the 4th Armored Division. He attended Heavy Artillery School in Fort Knox, Kentucky and was a graduate from the First-Set School, Lanchutz, Germany.
He received a BS Degree from Washington University, St. Louis and a Masters Degree from Seton Hall University. He was employed by the S.J. Groves & Sons Co. as a Civil Engineer for 25 years. His last six years of employment before retirement were spent in Saudi Arabia on a variety of massive civil projects under the sponsorship of ARAMCO.
He was a member of the Disabled Americans Veterans Organization - AM Vets - Veterans of Foreign Wars - Post 506 Plainfield & North Plainfield where he served as Post Commander. He was a Chair Officer for the Plainfield Elks BPOE for 10 years where he served on many committees including the Youth Committee and Patient Visitation at the VA Hospital, Lyons NJ.
George was a member of the Marble Collegiate Church in NYC and was greatly inspired by the sermons of Rev. Norman Vincent Peale.
George was predeceased by his parents George and Saleme, his brother Howard and sister Mae Coury.
He is survived by his daughters Eileen (Gigi) DiFabio and her husband John of Westfield, Beth Ulatowski and her husband Ralph of Brick Town, and his sons, Dr. G. Thomas Bishara and wife Lori of Cranford, Timothy and his wife Emilie of South Plainfield and Cory and his wife Stacey of Spotswood. Also mourning his loss are his 13 grandchildren: Ryan, Brittney, Matthew, Dana, Michael, Samantha, Zachary, Stephanie, Marisa, Jessica, Ariel, Theresa and Andrew. He is also survived by his sister, Norma Shaheen of Shickshinny, PA along with her children Sharon Klaas, Debbie Oravec and Chuck Shaheen and their families and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 6, 2009 beginning 10:30 AM in the McCriskin-Gustafson Home for Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ 07080
Relatives and friends may attend the visitation on Thursday, March 5, 2009 from 2-4 & 7-9 PM and on Friday, March 6, 2009 from 9:30 AM until the service.
In Lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial donations to VFW Post 506 in Plainfield, NJ; c/o McCriskin-Gustafson Home for Funerals.
