South Plainfield - Mildred E. (Leahy) Waldron, 91 died on Thursday, May 10, 2007 at home.
Born and raised in Bayonne, Mildred resided in South Plainfield for more than 50 years.
Very active within the community of South Plainfield, Mrs. Waldron served as one of the original Presidents of the South Plainfield Senior Citizens and was one of the first proponents to the mayor and council in acquiring the original South Plainfield Senior Citizen Building located on the corner of South Plainfield Avenue and Hamilton Boulevard. In addition, Mildred was a primary supporter of the South Plainfield Senior Citizen transportation bus, which today, assists in the local transportation of several South Plainfield Senior Residents.
Former South Plainfield Recreation Dept. Commissioner and the South Plainfield Senior Citizen Liaison to the South Plainfield Recreation Department, Mildred held these 2 positions for 25 years. She was also active with the South Plainfield Democratic Party, attending several Demeocratic Party functions.
A longtime and highly active member of Our Lady of Czestochowa RC Church in South Plainfield, Mrs. Waldron participated and served on the Feast of St. Anthony committee for several years. She enjoyed walking, caring for others, and was well known throughout the East Crescent Pkwy. neighborhood in South Plainfield.
She is pre-deceased by her husband Cyril, a sister Lorraine Leahy and by her brother Clayton Leahy.
Surviving are her daughter Doris Treslar of Rockaway, 2 sisters; Virginia Smith of Columbus, New Jersey and Doris Bolt of South Carolina, and 2 grandchildren; Heather Slover and Frederick W. Treslar. Also surviving are 4 great grandchildren; Kristin and Jessica Treslar and Brianna and Jenna Slover.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, May 16, 2007 at 9:15 AM in the McCriskin-Gustafson Home For Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Ave., South Plainfield followed by a 10:00 AM funeral mass at Our Lady of Czestochowa RC Church, South Plainfield.
Interment will follow in Holy Redeemer Cemetery, South Plainfield.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 15, 2007 from 2-4 & 7-9 PM in the funeral home.
