Obituary of Nellie Welc

At age 92, Nellie Olga Welc, also known as our "precious treasure," passed away on Sunday, March 4, 2018 at her home in North Plainfield, NJ where she resided for over 65 years. Nellie suffered from Parkinson 's disease in recent years.
Born to Mary and Klemens Schyrba in 1925, she grew up on a farm in the Metuchen, NJ . She graduated from Metuchen High School in 1942 where she was involved in numerous activities.
Nellie had three brothers; Theodore, Andrew, and William. It was William who introduced Nellie to her future husband.
Nellie married Stanley Welc, the love of her life, on May 29, 1948. Stanley predeceased Nellie in 1991.
In her early adulthood days she worked at Bell Telephone as an executive assistant before becoming a stay at home wife and mother where she raised her family; Barbara, Richard and Martin.
Nellie, who had a passion for helping others, was a volunteer for the T.W.I.G. which made trauma Teddy Bears for young children to hold on to while being cared for in the hospital.
Nellie loved playing cards, particularly bridge with her lady friends. She also enjoyed traveling with her late husband and other family members to foreign countries such as Brazil, Canary Islands, San Salvador just to name a few. She loved hosting Christmas Eve dinner in her home for family members and did so for over 50 years.
Nellie had seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She is also survived by her two lifelong friends; Olga Hayes and Stella Sawruk, who she referred to as her "country cousins" as well as her long time beloved friends; Peggy and Alan Berry.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 8, 2018 from 6:30pm - 8:30 pm in the McCriskin - Gustafson Home For Funerals 2425 Plainfield Ave South Plainfield, NJ.
Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, March 9, 2018 at 10AM at St. Luke's RC church, North Plainfield followed by interment at Hillside Cemetery, Scotch Plains.
