Obituary of Sally Calantoni
South Plainfield – Sally Calantoni, 87, passed away Tuesday, January 14, 2025.
Born and raised in Brooklyn to the late Said and Salimeh Rizek, Sally resided in Jamesburg, N.J before attending East Stroudsburg University where she studied early childhood education.
Upon graduating, Sally was recruited by the Edison Township Board of Education and ultimately married and settled in South Plainfield where she raised her children.
Sally was a long time sports enthusiast devoted to the University of Arizona Wildcats Men’s Basketball program, the NY Giants, Mets and Knicks. She loved Frank Sinatra, Big Band, Jazz, Swing and Doo-Wop Music. In her younger years she enjoyed shopping, her daytime stories, an afternoon lunch and a movie with the girls and regular bus trips to Atlantic City but more than anything, she enjoyed spending time with friends and loved ones no matter the occasion.
After the untimely loss of her husband, James in 1985, Sally devoted her time to her two sons, James and Marc.
Predeceased by her husband, James F. Calantoni; Siblings, Ernest, James, and Florence Rizek; niece, Soraya Rizek: nephew, David Rizek; step-daughter, Tina Calantoni Noto: and grandson, Michael John Zigre. Surviving are her two sons, James Calantoni and Marc Calantoni; her step-children Cheryl Calantoni Zigre and Victor Calantoni; five grandchildren, Anthony, Jaiden, Deanna, & Jherika Calantoni and Vincent Noto; Her nieces, Miriam Rizek and Deborah Horvath, her nephew, Christopher Rizek. and her two great grandchildren, Jahsir Mack and Ariella Noto.
Family and friends may gather on Saturday, January 18, 2025 in the McCriskin – Gustafson Home For Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield NJ from 10AM – 11AM.
Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Metuchen.
