Obituary of Robert F. Lyons
Piscataway, NJ – Robert F. Lyons, 70, known by his family and friends as “Bob,” passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on Monday, January 13, 2025. Born in Plainfield to the late Harold and Gladys (Hennessey) Lyons, Bob had been a longtime resident of Piscataway.
Bob worked at American Express for fifteen years and for the last eighteen years of his career, he worked for the United States Postal Service as a letter carrier in Monroe and in the call center in Edison. An avid sports fan, Bob was a lifetime NY Yankees and Beatles fan.
Bob was the consummate family man. He delighted in playing with the kids, starting with his nieces and nephews, then his children, and ultimately his grandchildren as well. They were the light of his life. Bob’s love extended to all of his family, always thoughtful and generous with his gifts and time, putting others first to make them happy.
Bob leaves behind his loving wife of forty-two years, Barbara and their daughters; Melanie Lyons and Kim Flynn (Greg) all of Piscataway, grandchildren Ollie and Lexi, bonus grandchildren Izzy and Maddie as well as Bob’s sister Mary Ann Szymanski (Len,) brother Tom Lyons, three nieces, two nephews, mother-in-law Mary Gross and sisters-in-law Deb Langer and Linda Garza (Paul).
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, January 17, 2025 beginning 10:00 am at St. Frances Cabrini RC Church in Piscataway. Entombment will follow at Resurrection Burial Park, also in Piscataway. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the National MS Society.
