Obituary of James R. Lo Monte

James R. Lo Monte, 98, passed away on Tuesday, January 7, 2025 at the Hospice House in East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania.

Born in Jackson, MI, Mr. Lo Monte resided Clifton for a brief time and South Plainfield for many years prior to relocating to East Stroudsburg, PA.

Mr. Lo Monte served our country during WWII in the Army as a Survey and Instrument Man.

A longtime communicant of Sacred Heart RC Church in South Plainfield, Jim, along with his wife Ellie, served as an original advisor to the Sacred Heart CYO Youth Group which he helped establish. For 10 years Jim served as an advisor to the youth group. As a result of his commitment to the group and church, Jim received the Bishops Award for God and Youth.

In addition, Jim was a member of the South Plainfield Knights of Columbus Council 6203, the NJ Lapidary Society and Den leader of the Webelos Scouts.

As avid wood worker, Jim enjoyed making wrapped jewelry, camping with family and friends as well as taking his sons and grandkids fishing but being able to spend time with his grandchildren is what he truly cherished.

Surviving are his wife Eleanor of East Stroudsburg, PA, children; Lenore Buttery and her husband Ace of Spring Hill, FL., Christopher Piscataway, Kevin and his wife April of Fords, Peter and his wife Ines of Lebanon and Michael and David both of Piscataway; sister, Joan Salzer of Clifton, 12 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Also surviving are several niece and nephews.

Visitation will be held in the McCriskin – Gustafson Home for Funerals 2425 Plainfield Ave. South Plainfield, NJ 07080 on Monday, January 13, 2025 beginning at 8:45am followed by a 10am funeral mass at Sacred Heart RC Church, South Plainfield, NJ.

Following mass cremation services are going to take place privately.

Inurnment of Mr. Lo Monte’s cremated remains will held on Tuesday, January 14, 2025 at 11am at Holy Redeemer Cemetery Mausoleum, South Plainfield, NJ.
