Obituary of Duane Miyagishima
Duane Miyagishima, 73, passed away on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, in Liberty, NY.
Born in Montana to the late Johnny and Tokie Miyagishima, Duane spent his early years in California, until his family settled in Piscataway, NJ while Duane was in High School. A graduate of Piscataway High, Class of 1969, Duane joined the United States Air Force in 1971. While serving as a Chaplain Specialist, he achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant. During his service, he was first stationed at McGuire Air Force Base in New Jersey, then later in Japan, and then upon moving back to the United States, he resided in Dover, DE. Following his Honorable Discharge in 1974, he began studying business at Rutgers University graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in 1977.
Through the years, Duane has worked in public finance at several companies and banks including Dun and Bradstreet, UBS, AMBAC, JP Morgan, and Royal Bank of Canada, where he retired from in 2014. Following his retirement, he settled in Parksville, NY, where he has been a resident since 2015.
Outside of work, Duane was an avid photographer, and was passionate about photographing nature and animals. In his early years, he enjoyed cycling, and while living in New York City, he was known to carry dog treats in his pocket for all the local dogs. He also cherished time fishing and being outdoors. Above all else, it was time spent with his grandson, Ryan, that meant the most to him. Duane was also a member of the local American Legion.
Predeceased by his siblings, Glenn Miyagishima and Charlotte Cooper, Duane is survived by his wife Sueko, and children Rev. Corwyn Miyagishima and Christian Miyagishima and his wife Danielle. He will also be missed by his grandson Ryan, as well as a host of extended relatives and friends.
A visitation will be held at McCriskin – Gustafson Home for Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ, on Thursday, November 7, 2024, from 3 PM to 7 PM.
Funeral services will be held in the funeral home on Thursday, November 7, 2024, beginning at 6:30 PM.
Cremation Services will be held privately.
In lieu of flowers, the Miyagishima family has requested that donations be made to Troopers Assisting Troopers, in Duane’s name.
