Obituary of Marilyn Peery

Please share a memory of Marilyn to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

On September 14, 2024 our loving mother and grandmother, Marilyn Peery, passed away peacefully at home at the age of 85.

Born in Boston, Massachusetts on February 24, 1939 Marilyn was the daughter of Edwin and Margaret (Vecchione) Cooper. Joined by brother Eddie in 1940, the family lived in East Boston.

WWII sent Marilyn’s father overseas so Marilyn and Eddie moved in with their grandmother Ginga, aunt, uncle and 4 cousins. Marilyn attended Girls High in Boston and graduated in 1956. She then moved to Marlow Heights Maryland with her mother, step father Edward Artick, and brother Eddie. Marilyn got a job working in the office at Sears and worked there nearly 3 years until her best friend Juanita set her up on a blind date with Navy Ensign Lloyd H. Peery of Flagler, Colorado and they fell in love. Marilyn and Lloyd married on April 4, 1959 and moved to Fort Collins, Colorado where Lloyd worked as a lineman for AT&T and he attended Colorado State University. Their first child Deirdre was born in January 1960. Nancy followed in September 1961 and Phillip in June 1963. Lloyd then graduated from CSU with an engineering degree, so he was promoted by AT&T and the family moved to Prairie Village, Kansas. Cynthia was born in November 1966 and the family was
complete.

Marilyn volunteered to work in the library of Belinder Elementary School where her children all attended. She was also room mother for each one of her kids’ classes. A voracious reader, Marilyn stressed her love of books and education to her children.

In 1975, Lloyd was transferred by AT&T to New Jersey and the family moved to Middlesex Borough. Marilyn baby sat in her home for many children and she was also a volunteer band parent for the high school band. When her first grandchild arrived in 1989, she was so excited to baby sit as Benjamin was the light of her life, but just the first to win her heart. 3 step children joined the family in 1997 and then in 2002 grand daughter Maggie arrived. A grandma and granddaughter always share a special secret bond only they know in their hearts.

In 1968 Marilyn and Lloyd bought a cottage on Cape Cod Massachusetts and there were many long drives across the country to spend the “summah on the Cape”. The move to New
Jersey put the family closer to Marilyn’s very large Italian family as Marilyn’s mother was one of 14 children, so there were 43 first cousins in this tight knit family.

Marilyn and Lloyd enjoyed cruising with their friends through the Caribbean, traveling to the mid-west, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Bermuda and the Outer Banks of North Carolina. In 2000 and 2005 they were so excited to travel to Scotland. Marilyn was an avid crafter and seamstress. She loved to knit and crochet. She was also a wonderful cook.

Marilyn is survived by daughters Nancy Peery and Cynthia Kyryczenko (Jeffrey) of Middlesex Borough; grandsons Benjamin Peery (Stuart) of Cazadero, CA and Christopher Peters of Mount Holly, NJ; and granddaughters Margaret Kyryczenko of Middlesex Borough, Melody Peters and great granddaughter Alanna Peters of Mount Holly, NJ. Marilyn leaves a large extended family with many cousins, nieces and nephews. She also had many good friends. She is predeceased by husband Lloyd Peery, daughter Deirdre Peters, son Phillip Peery and brother Eddie Cooper.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the organ transplant organization “NJ Sharing Network” would be greatly appreciated. Visit njsharingnetwork.org for this worthwhile foundation.

As per Marilyns wishes, there will be no public services. Her and her husband’s ashes will be scattered on Cape Cod, where they spent many wonderful hours.  All professional services have been entrusted to Middlesex Funeral Home.
