Obituary of Edward E. Benson
Middlesex, NJ – Edward E. Benson, 80, died suddenly on Friday, June 21, 2024. Born in Dover, NJ to the late Carl and Lydia (Newman) Benson, Edward lived in Budd Lake, NJ until 1948, when his family settled in Middlesex, NJ. Edward was a member of the first graduating class of Middlesex High School. A decades long resident of Middlesex, Edward also lived for many years both in New Hope, PA and Ft. Myers, FL before returning to Middlesex in 2019.
Always active in Middlesex, Edward, at various times and for many years, served as President of the Middlesex Zoning Board, as a “Special” for the Middlesex Police Department and most recently as a Teacher of English as a Second Language to Middlesex residents. Edward also gave of his time to various causes and missions that were close to his heart, including Our Lady of Mount Virgin Church, the Catholic Diocese of Metuchen and the Boy Scouts of America.
An executive in the banking industry, Edward’s career spanned more than 50 years during which he worked at many local and community financial institutions, including United Jersey Bank, First Bank of Colonia and most recently Community First Bank, where he retired as Senior Vice President of Bank Operations.
Edward is survived by his best friend and companion William Ditrolio of Florida; his son, Scott and Scott’s partner, Lida Clark of Bedminster; his former wife, Barbara Benson of Middlesex and his brother, James Benson, James' wife Patricia and niece Caroline Benson of Middlesex.
