Obituary of Gloria Viola Barnes

Gloria Viola Barnes was born on June 10, 1926, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Ethel Swann and Charles Hutson. She was their only child.

Gloria graduated from Camden High School in 1944 and later attended Spelman College. She worked as a beautician and a social worker for the state of New Jersey.

She married Alfred James, and together they had a daughter, Angie Ella Johnson. Angie blessed Gloria with four grandchildren: Edmond Thomas, Dwayne Johnson, Tiffany Johnson, and Keith Johnson. Gloria adored her grandchildren and spent many afternoons driving them to various practices and recitals.

Gloria’s favorite pastime is chatting with all the friends she made during her life. She looked forward to her lunch dates with the ladies from St Francis Episcopal Church in Dunellen.

Gloria’s life was marked by her dedication to her family and her community. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
