Obituary of Antonio B. Sasso
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Antonio (Tony) Sasso on May 30, 2024, at the age of 90. Born in Montreal, on November 3, 1933, to the late Giuseppe and Margherita (Carra) Sasso, he resided in Montreal until his move to Middlesex, NJ in 1970 where he became an American citizen in 1975.
Tony was a gifted man. From birth, it was evident that God had given him many talents which he used well throughout his life. Those who knew him knew what kind of man he was: a stubborn Italian with a heart of gold, hardworking, resilient, brilliantly creative and skillful. He loved doing things “HIS WAY”; which turned out to be the best way.
Tony wore his faith on his sleeve. His unwavering love for his family was only paralleled by his loyalty to his friends and community. Among his many accomplishments, as a member and officer of Middlesex Elks, he served on the House Committee and constructed many award-winning floats for the Annual Elks Convention, volunteered with the Office of Emergency Management as a Lieutenant and Captain, and Lieutenant with the Fire Police, and all will remember his legendary “dropping of the ball” every New Year’s Eve.
Among his many recognitions, Tony was Middlesex Elk of the Year; Citizen of the Year and both he and his wife received a Distinguished Service Award from the Middlesex Democrats. Upon retiring from his volunteer activities, Tony was given a Proclamation from the Borough of Middlesex for his many years of loyal service.
Tony, with your intelligence, cunning humor and immense heart you will leave behind the indelible mark of a man bigger than life. You will be missed.
Devoted husband, father and grandfather he is predeceased by his dear daughter Linda Martinowich. He will be immensely missed by his devoted wife of 65 years, Monique Sasso, his caring daughters Sylvia Piznik (Mark); Norma Powers (Michael); son-in-law Mark Martinowich (Patti), his five loving grandchildren, Nicole, Matthew (Sarah) Piznik; Jessica Martinowich-Miranda (Louis); Joshua and Jeremy Powers; and two adorable great granddaughters, Isabella and Gabriella and soon-to-be great grandson; two sisters Victoire Bourgra and Gilda De Bortoli; sister in law Louise (Gilles) Côté, nieces and nephews and all his loyal friends who’s lives he has blessed.
Viewing will be held at the Middlesex Funeral Home, 528 Bound Brook Road, Middlesex, NJ 08846 on Sunday, June 2, 2024 from 2pm-4pm and 7pm-9pm and on Monday, June 3, 2024 beginning 10:00am.
