Obituary of Gerald L Starr
Gerald L. “Jerry” Starr, 84, passed away at home on Tuesday, May 21, 2024.
Born and raised in Elizabeth, Jerry lived in Edison before settling in South Plainfield for nearly 50 years. In 2019, they retired to Toms River to enjoy their golden years together.
Jerry was a dedicated and hardworking man. He began his career as a guard with Brinks Armored Trucking before serving as a police officer with the South Plainfield Police Department. He also owned and operated his own heating and cooling company, Starr Radiator Service.
Jerry proudly served his country with the Army National Guard, receiving an honorable discharge in 1965. He was a cherished member of the American Legion, the Italian American Club, the South Plainfield Elks, and the Loyal Order of the Moose.
Preceded in death by his dear wife, Rachele Starr, Jerry leaves behind a loving family: his brother Bruce Starr; his sister Joan Olympio; his two stepsons, Ken Carrier and his wife Cookie, and Jeff Carrier and his wife Rita. His memory will also be treasured by his grandchildren Kenny, Nicky, Joey, Jeffrey, Justin, and Julia, as well as numerous extended family members and friends.
Family and friends are invited to gather in Jerry’s honor on Wednesday, May 29, 2024 from 3 pm to 7 pm at the McCriskin – Gustafson Home For Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ 07080. A prayer service will begin at 6:30 pm. Jerry's warm presence and kind spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
