Obituary of Delia Caridad Palleija
Delia Caridad Palleija, 87, passed away on Thursday, April 11, 2024, at her home in Union, NJ with her beloved husband of 63 years by her side.
Born in Cuba to the late Venerando and Everalda Noda, Delia grew up in Alquizar, Havana Cuba.
On August 21, 1967, her 31st birthday, Delia and her family immigrated to the United States, settling in Newark, NJ. Here, her and her husband Juan raised their two sons and daughter, before moving to Union in 2001.
Through the years, Delia raised her three children, while also working as a seamstress and a proud homemaker. Delia enjoyed hosting parties for any occasion, and never ever missed a birthday. You were guaranteed to smell her delicious culinary skills the instant you step foot into her home on any given day as she cooked for an army we would say, and all were welcomed. Delia was an active supporter of The Alquizar Newspaper, a bulletin from her hometown in Cuba, which helped keep members of the community up to date on the lives of fellow community members throughout the world, as well as events in their hometown area. Delia prayed to see Cuba free one day and perhaps she will see it when it happens in eternal life.
Above all else, Delia loved being with her family, and treating them with new clothes and gifts of all kinds. Her children, and especially her grandchildren, meant the world to her. It was trips to her favorite place, Macy’s, where she often bought gifts for the family.
Predeceased by her parents and brother, Bernardo Noda, Delia is survived by her husband, Juan Palleija; and their three loving children, Juan (Karen) Palleija, Irene (Justin) Colangelo, Ricardo (Maria) Palleija and loved as a daughter, Judy Plesko. Delia will also be missed by her grandchildren, Brian, Eric, Dylan, Christopher, Gabriella, Raisa and Ian; and siblings, Nievelis Bittman and Gloria Hernandez, along with a host of extended relatives and friends.
A visitation will be held at McCriskin – Gustafson Home for Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ, on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, from 9 AM to 12 PM.
A blessing will take place in the funeral home at 12 PM.
