Obituary of Jeffrey A DeChellis
Jeffrey DeChellis, 62, of Middlesex, NJ, passed away on February 14, 2024, in Edison NJ. He was born August 9, 1961, in Plainfield, NJ.
Jeff started his career while in high school volunteering for the Westfield Rescue Squad in 1978. Over the years, he pursued his passion for healthcare, becoming a Respiratory Therapy Technician in 1982 and obtaining his paramedic Certificate in July 1983.
While working part-time at Overlook Hospital, Jeff proudly Co-Owned Union Plumbing Supply alongside his father. He also served in various roles throughout the years, including teaching CPR and ACLS classes, he was a proud Flight Paramedic for the newly created Air Transport Program, AirMed One, and later was a clinical coordinator at Somerset Medical Center and JFK Medical Center. In his later years, he worked as a paramedic and flight medic at Atlantic Health Systems.
In 2013, Jeff and Gene Mayer became the first same-sex couple in Middlesex to legally marry.
Predeceased by his mother, Joan (nee Brown) DeChellis, and father, Anthony J DeChellis, Jeff is survived by his husband Gene Mayer and his children, Meagan, Carolanne, Michelle, and Brady Mayer-DeChellis. He will also be missed by his siblings, along with a host of extended relatives and friends.
A visitation will be held at the Piscataway Funeral Home, 18 Stelton Road, Piscataway, NJ, on Thursday, February 22, from 4 PM to 8 PM.
A prayer service will be held in the funeral home at 7:30 PM on Thursday, February 22, 2024.
Following a private cremation, burial will take place at Lake Nelson Cemetery, Piscataway, NJ.
