Obituary of Deborah Ann Gugel

Piscataway – Deborah Ann Gugel, 68, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, August 22, 2023 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick. 

Born in Newark, Debbie resided in Irvington and Roselle Park before settling in Piscataway with her in husband in 1987. Soon after, she raised her beloved son, Andrew. 

Surviving are her husband of 36 years, Alan Gugel; their son, Andrew and his wife Gabrielle as well as her brother, Richard Zebleckas and his wife Linda with their children Linsey, Richard Jr. and Leigh. She leaves behind many extended family members and beloved friends. 

A hardworking woman, she was employed as the Head Cashier and Bookkeeper at Merck, as well as in thecollections department of Somerset Medical Center,before leaving to care for her newborn son. After some time, she returned to work assuming various roles. She was a noon-time aid at Arbor School and most recently worked as a receptionist at Dr. Schwartz office in Piscataway.

Debbie was a passionate volunteer who devoted her life to serving others. She was a member of the PTAand a proud Superchief Band mom. She was also atalented seamstress and knitter. She was a devoted member of the Bound Brook Presbyterian Churchwhere she served on the Board of Deacons for many years. Debbie gave her time, talent and treasures to support the work of the church.

Debbie would do anything for anyone. She had the sweetest heart and she will be missed dearly. 

Funeral services will begin on Wednesday, August 30, 2023 at 9AM in the Piscataway Funeral Home, 18 Stelton Road, Piscataway NJ 08854 followed by a church service at the Presbyterian Church at Bound Brook at 10AM.

Entombment will follow in Woodbridge Memorial Gardens, Woodbridge.

Family and friends may gather on Tuesday, August 29, 2023 from 2-4PM and 7-9PM in the funeral home.
