Obituary of Thomas Kenneth Heim
South Plainfield, NJ – Thomas Kenneth Heim, 84, passed away at his home on Friday, July 14, 2023 surrounded by family. Born in Newark to the late Martin and Catherine (Faustman) Heim, Tom grew up in Kenilworth and settled in South Plainfield sixty years ago.
He started his career with Monsanto in Kenilworth where he was employed for thirty years. He worked for St. Theresa's Church in Kenilworth for forty years before taking a security position with Halls Warehouse, which he worked for ten years before retiring.
He was a faithful communicant of Sacred Heart Church in South Plainfield and belonged to the Knights of Columbus. In his younger years, he would never miss a game and enjoyed coaching for Pop Warner Football.
Tom could often be found outdoors, whether it was in the yard gardening or sitting out by the pool. His favorite time spent was sitting at the beach, taking in the sun, listening to music, and being with those he loved the most.
Predeceased by his only brother Robert, he leaves behind his large, loving and dedicated family; his wife of sixty-one years; Dolores (Vance) Heim and their children; Colleen Arndt (Greg), Joanne Okoszko (Lester), Sally Baker (Thomas), Susan Loiacono (Charlie), Thomas Heim Jr. and MaryEllen Harris (Devon).
He will be missed dearly by his eighteen grandchildren: Jessica, Danielle, Jamie, Brittany, Nicholas, Kenneth, Kristin, Kyle, Karylanne, Kristopher, Lindsay, C.J., Melissa, Sydney, Thomas III, Meghan, Brianna and MaKenzie, as well as his twenty-five great-grandchildren (soon-to-be twenty-seven): Hunter, Jackson, Noah, Zac, Micah, Aaliyah, Lukah, Joseph, Ashley, Paityn, Connor, Colton, Skyler, Linkin, Riley, Addie, Ella, Eugene, Josette, Blake, Brooklyn, Logan, Leah, Aubree and J.J.
Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation at South Plainfield Funeral Home, 2456 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ 07080 on Thursday, July 20, 2023 from 2pm-4pm and 7pm-9pm and on Friday, July 21, 2023 beginning at 9:00am. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 21, 2023 in the funeral home at 9:15am followed by a 10:00am funeral mass at Sacred Heart Church in South Plainfield. Tom will then be laid to rest at Hillside Cemetery in Scotch Plains.
In lieu of flowers, donations sent in Tom’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (www.StJude.org) would be appreciated.
