Obituary of Joseph L. Sacco, Jr.
Joseph L. Sacco Jr., 76, passed away on Tuesday, June 7, 2022 at Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank, NJ.
Born in New Brunswick to the late Joseph and Louise (Boccia) Sacco, Joe had been a lifelong resident of the Borough of South Plainfield.
Joe attended South Plainfield elementary schools and graduated from Middlesex County Vocational and Technical School before entering the military.
Following his honorable discharge in 1971, Joe became a carpenter working for Carpenters Union Local 155 out of Plainfield and later Elizabeth prior to his retirement.
He was active with various organizations within town including the South Plainfield Wrestling Club, Pop Warner Football, Queen City Pigeon Club, American Legion Post 243, B.P.O.E Lodge 2298 and the Italian American Progressive League.
Joe was always willing to volunteer his time and assist the various organizations he was involved with in any way possible.
He enjoyed helping people and cherished his many friendships in and around town.
He is predeceased by his parents, sister, Mary Ann Vitali; brother, Thomas Sacco and brother-in-law, Drew Forgash.
Surviving is his beloved wife of 54 years, Davida (Forgash) Sacco; two sons, Joseph and his wife Nadine and Todd and his wife Andrea; five dear grandchildren; Joseph, Jenna, Jordan, Alexandra and Victoria; his brother, Angelo and his wife Marie, sister-in-laws, Sue Ann Sacco, Stephanie Albury & Sherry Forgash; brother-in-law, Richard Forgash and his wife Bonnie, and many nieces & nephews.
Joe was affectionately known as “Poppy” by his loving grandchildren whom he and wife Davida (known as “Mimi”) treasured treasured spending time with. They enjoyed many summers at the Jersey shore with their family and countless lifelong friends.
Funeral services will begin on Monday, June 13, 2022 at 9:15am in the McCriskin – Gustafson Home For Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Ave., South Plainfield NJ 07080 followed by a 10am funeral mass at Church of the Sacred Heart 149 South Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield.
Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery, Scotch Plains, NJ.
Family and friends are invited to join together for the visitation on Sunday, June 12, 2022 from 2-6pm in the funeral home.
