Obituary of Kathryn Shannon Galuska
South Plainfield – Kathryn Shannon Galuska, 86, passed away Friday, July 30, 2021 at home.
Born and raised in Bloomfield, NJ, Kathryn graduated from Bloomfield High School and studied at Rutgers University. In 1957, she married Joseph Galuska and a year later they settled in South Plainfield where they began raising their family.
Kathryn, a true mother at heart, raised her six children, helped care for her ten grandchildren, and also worked for many years as an infant caregiver at a hospital day care center. Kathryn enjoyed quilting and made many beautiful quilts for her family over the years. She will be remembered as a loving and devoted matriarch.
Surviving are her husband of 64 years, Joseph Galuska; six children, Teresa Fisher and husband Bill, Patricia Hoernerand husband Ken, Eileen Malara and husband Greg, Thomas Galuska and wife Mariann, Kathryn Colao and husband John, and Susan Kopas; and ten grandchildren: Grace, Ben, Joey, Mary, Lexi, Tim, Liz, Jenna, Andrew and Caroline.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 3, 2021 from 6:00-8:00 pm at McCriskin-Gustafson Home for Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ 07080.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 4, 2021 at 9:30 am at the McCriskin-Gustafson Home for Funerals, followed by a 10:30 am funeral mass at Sacred Heart RC Church, 149 South Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield.
Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery, Scotch Plains.
Donations may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital which encompasses her love of children, the hope of curing childhood cancer, and the providing of healthcare to all, regardless of ability to pay.
