Mr Zaneto had a fifth child. In an upbringing with a very devoted single mom, Pat and Ron took me into their home practically every since day during my childhood through middle school while my mom worked. They fed me, made sure I got to and from school. And they loved me like their own.
My mom relied on Pat as her best friend and to Ron both as the village that kept her kid safe with the greatest childhood ever.
My mom relied on Ron on important questions like “Ron, I saved up for a VCR. Do I buy a Betamax or VHS?” To which Ron said Ilene, go with Betamax. Better picture and it will never go away.
We know VHS eventually reigned supreme BUT we have our Betamax in our attic because we cannot let it go. It really was great.
Mr. Z took to the video recorder and I KNOW that there are MANY childhood videos with me in them in very memorable moments with the family. He captured EVERYTHING on that monster.
Mr Z was my softball coach with Mr Sudol. It’s where I learned how to “dig it” through first base and the be a pretty good catcher. We had a GREAT time with our dedicated coaches and our families on the sideline. Carvel was always the prize after our MANY won games!
I became a nurse, following my mom. While our families lost contact here and there through the years, I got to see them while I was working in the hospital.
One memorable moment was when Mom Moms came to me telling me about Poppy and said “Tara, can you call Pat and Ron. He’s gone”. I called Pat and Ron and THEN went into Poppy’s room to find out he was still alive. Very sick but alive. I tried to hide from my Zaneto family, MORTIFIED that I had called them and told them that Poppy was dead. They came down the hallway laughing hysterically at me because, this was typical Tara.
Our families then reconnected on a more permanent basis again in 2007 when Matchmaker Kelly connected Stacie and I together, with us discovering that the girls we were pregnant with had very significant birth defects that would impact birth and the care they would need after.
While our pregnancies were tough emotionally, both families got to go through everything, together. This all was made in the stars for us all to be reunited.
Paige was born first and then Emerson. Both girls went through MANY hurdles with a long stay at CHOP. What was significant that other people did not have was that we had a HUGE United family supporting our girls.
Grandma and Grandpa Z were in seeing Paige once she was stabilized along with my mom and my inlaws.
Ron and Pat were supportive clearly to Stacie and Josh and Reece but also to me and Paul. They were there for us at a time when we needed as much support as possible.
When Em was born, our girls were in different pod rooms but Stacie and I would walk from the Ronald McDonald house together. Ron and Pat were there pretty much every day as were my mom and inlaws. All of the grandparents LOVED, prayed for and worshipped our two miracles. We spent Thanksgiving with everyone. We went out to dinner while half of our family would stay behind standing vigil over both girls.
I got to see my siblings. As an only child, Stacie, Kelly, Sandy and Ron were (and still are) such an important part of my past, present and future.
From there, we have all gone through 13 years of love, communication, picnics, parties and laughs.
Altogether, my “dad” Ron was there for me as was my Zaneto mom and siblings for 41 years (first year of preschool).
Ron is still around. He has been sending signs to everyone. Like Kelly said, you just have to look out for them because he is still with us.
Love you Mr. Z (dad, Coach Zaneto, Grandpa Z)

Fair Winds and Following Seas
Fair winds and following seas,
may forever you feel, upon your cheek, the salty breeze.
Your spirit lives on in many a heart,
your words captured, and never to depart.
May your loved ones have the comfort in knowing,
to heaven is where you are going.
For all that they have to do is look above,
and they will be reminded of your love.

I went to school with Ronnie. We had a lot of good times in high school and playing baseball. We shared driving our cars to school in our senior year. He was a good friend. He will be missed,
