Obituary of Ronald F. Nolan

Piscataway –   Ronald F. Nolan, 89, passed away Wednesday, January 13, 2021 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick.

 

A resident of Piscataway since 1964, Ronald Francis Nolan was born in Jamaica, Queens, NY.  .

 

Ron “broke into sales” with his close friend, Ed Longacre, in Portland, Mainean was the consummate salesman. Most recently, he was the vice president of sales for Croton Watch Company and worked until his 81st birthday.

 

Ron served in the US Air Force and was stationed near Niagara Falls, NY.  It was here he met his bride, Mary Harris Nolan. 

 

A Chaminade High School (Long Island) and Fordham graduate, Ron was devoted to his Catholic faith.  Since 1964, he was a parishioner of St. Francis Cabrini Church.  Monday mornings he could be found counting the offerings from the Sunday masses with friends Jeannie Clarkin and Justine Cardone.

 

An avid fan, Ron attended his first NY football Giants game at the Polo Grounds in 1942.  Every Sunday, he watched his beloved team.  He loved to tailgate and attend Rutgers football games.  He played golf into his mid 80’s and could often be found on the Rutgers golf course.  He loved watching Jeopardy and comparing trivia notes with his late friend, Bill Boulle.  Long ago, he was part of the River Side Rats softball team and also bowled a mean game with friends Sam Alvino, Ed Longacre and Bob Hunter.  He also came to love photography while in the service and has a vast collection of slides

 

Ron was a veracious reader, loved cross word puzzles and was noted for his humor and wit.  He knew NYC well and loved to take family and friends on trips into the city.

 

Ron is survived by his son Kevin Nolan (Ft. Collins,CO), son Michael Nolan and daughter in law Karen Dempowski (Keyport,NJ), and daughter in law Janice Nolan-Dietz (Indianapolis, IN).  Grand children include Nicole Grossman, (Newtown,CT).  Andrea Tavino, (Danbury,CT), Connor and Brendan Nolan( Indiana), and Spencer and Mackenzie Nolan (Ft. Collins,CO).   Ron was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Harris Nolan, son Sean Nolan, daughter Kathleen Nolan Tavino and son in law Paul Tavino.

 

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 19, 2021 at 8:45AM in Piscataway Funeral Home, 18 Stelton Road Piscataway NJ 08854 followed by a funeral mass in St. Francis Cabrini RC Church at 10AM.

 

Family and friends may gather in the funeral home on Monday, January 18, 2021 from 4-7PM.

 

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Francis Cabrini Church in Piscataway.

 

A celebration of life will be held for Ron after the Covid – 19 restrictions have been lifted.

 

During this ongoing pandemic, according to Executive Orders and the CDC guidelines, we kindly ask that face masks must be worn while visiting, to be mindful of physical distancing to the best of your ability, and are asking visitors to minimize time spent indoors to allow everyone a chance to pay their respects. We thank you for your understanding and for taking these precautions during this difficult time.
