Obituary of Ethel M. Scott
Ethel M. Scott, 90 years old, passed away on Sunday, December 6, 2020 in the Haven hospice at JFK Medical Center in Edison.
Born and raised in Jersey City, Ethel graduated from Synder High School and resided in East Orange prior to settling to South Plainfield over 52 years ago.
Ethel work with her twin sister at AT&T as a Supervisor for many years prior to her retirement.
Ethel was family oriented. She loved her family with her whole heart. She gave what she had to make their time with her better. After Ethel married Kenny, they started having BBQ’s and other gatherings in the backyard. She was so inviting. Members on both sides of the family and neighborhood friends would come to participate and enjoy the pool, food and fun inside and out. She would do this all the while with jokes, laughter and a smile that was life changing.
Ethel also enjoyed sharing what she had with her daughters, grandchildren and great-grands. Ethel’s love was so strong for us that she would worry about how she could make our lives better. Ethel was the driving force in the spirit of love for her family. Ethel and Kenny helped take care of her granddaughter Vanessa when she was small and promised her daughter Dawne that she would always watch over her and she definitely did. Ethel would bless all Venessa’s kids with loads of clothes, toys and love. When tragedy fell upon the family, Dawne’s twins, John and Ayleia, went to live with their father, George Wardrick, whom she knew would take wonderful care of while keeping the family engaged. Mommy would keep the twins regularly during the summer. Ethel and her daughter Valerie became real close friends once her daughter became an adult. They would talk on the phone a couple of times a day sharing heart-felt memories such as a ride to the shore of a beach, attend the New Jersey Arts Center or travel to various cities to see the grandkids. She always wanted the best for them. She shared her opinions and lead by example. Ethel was about family and friends.
Ethel had spiritual gifts that she did not brag about. Ethel was a servant of God and served cakes, pies etc. every week to the congregation. She would spend time shopping and preparing for these the night prior. Ethel helped her granddaughter Mia when needed with Marrissa and Tarius, Mia’s two children, until they were of age. When her daughter Valerie had her son, Tamier, both Ethel and Kenny were right there to help in any way they could. When he was old enough to go to school, they would pick him up and keep him overnight while Valerie went to work. Ethel had many roles in all of our lives. She was Kenny’s co-pilot in the car. When her daughter Valerie bought a house in Plainfield, Ethel would come over with curtains, pots, and different things that she thought would help her daughter. She loved decorating and shopping. Ethel was a ”fashionista” also known for her sharp clothing attire. She dressed to the tee for example matching hats, pocketbooks, shoes, the works! She never was seen not looking fly. Her make-up was on before she left her bedroom. She took after her father who was well dressed all the time. She even kept her husband looking good.
Ethel was a Giver. A Giver of her time, her resources, her wisdom; all of which exemplifies love to all who knew her. We love her and will miss her very much. We appreciate the time we had with her. She truly built and inspired greatness in us all.
