Obituary of Elizabeth Brand
Elizabeth “Betty” (O’Connor) Brand, 90, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 27, 2020 at the Arden Courts Memory Care Center in West Palm Beach, Florida.
Born in Newark to the late Thomas and Florence O’Connor, Betty grew up in Bloomfield and resided in Somerset for over 25 years prior to moving to Bridgewater where she lived for 15 years before relocating back to Somerset.
A devoted family woman, Betty was a stay at home mother. After raising her two daughters Patricia and Denise, she attended and graduated from Somerset County College with a degree in Business.
She was employed by the Franklin Township Board of Education for many years working in their accounting department where she retired from in 1992.
A former communicant of St. Matthias RC Church in Somerset, Betty was a devout catholic and active with catholic charities. She was an avid reader, enjoyed crossword puzzles, playing bridge and loved music and dancing. Betty also participated in various Bridge and Women Clubs.
In addition, Mrs. Brand loved and embraced her Irish heritage, enjoyed spending summers in LBI and after retirement, traveled extensively with the love of her life “Raym.”
Betty will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
She is predeceased by her husband, Raymond Brand and two brothers, Thomas (Helen) and James (Marlene) O’Connor.
Surviving are her two daughters, Patricia Basilone and husband John of South Plainfield and Denise Archer and husband John of Florida; four grandchildren, Kristen Valluzzi and husband Joe of South Plainfield, Justin Basilone and partner Joelle of South Plainfield, Ryan Jackson and wife Shea of Florida and Kaitlin Jackson of Florida and three great grandchildren, Ava, Joey and Jack Valluzzi. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews and extended relatives.
Betty’s family would like to thank the wonderful staff of Arden Courts Memory Care Unit for their dedication and support over the past few years.
We also wish to thank the Vitas Hospice for their assistance and care, especially Carlene R.N., and the help they provided during our mom’s final days. Because of their 24 hour care mom passed away peacefully.
Visitation will begin at 9:30am on Friday, July 31, 2020 followed by a 10:30am funeral service in the McCriskin – Gustafson Home For Funerals 2425 Plainfield Ave. South Plainfield, NJ 07080.
Betty will be entombed with her beloved husband Raymond privately.
