I was shocked to just find out about this today! Sandy and I worked together at AT&T word processing center from 1988 until disbanded in 1995. I then got Sandy a job alongside me at a law firm in Florham Park where we spent the next 10 1/2 years together on Saturdays laughing and sharing McDonald’s and Italian sandwiches together. Many times Sandy would give me money to eat or bring me food. She was the most generous person I ever met. I knew she loved Bill Clinton so I created a fake news article about her meeting him. I never heard her laugh so hard! She had an excellent sense of humor. Sandy was the inspiration for a character in my novel Meadowlark! She loved her children more than anything! That’s the bond we shared the most. We both were Mother’s first! I’m glad Sandy is with the Lord and have confidence I will see her again!!!!!!

I remember the stories you would tell me of when I was a baby and you would sit me on you knee and watch MTV. How you created a special song for me when I was born and sang it to me last I spoke with you just a few short weeks ago.
I remember the silly stories you told me of us as a baby. How your 80s sweater ended up with a sequin in my eye that you freaked out over and how you had to prevent my walker from going down the stairs lol.
I remember being there with you the night Paige was born sleeping in you sofa coach at Aunt Karen’s. I remember watching Golden Girls with you snuggling on that sofa coach.
I remember you feeding me spoonfuls of you coffee... light and sweet. I still drink it the same to this day.
I remember dressing up in your high heals and cheetah print attire, pretending I was fancy.
I remember your passion for our Italian heritage and you telling me of our family line generations back in Italy.
I remember the stories that you shared with me of when you were growing up in NYC during the war and how the butcher had a crush on your Mama and so you all still were able to get meat but it was hard to get pantyhose.
I remember your sauce and meatballs...I remember making Wandas and Ricotta Cookies with you... I remember all the incredible family recipes you made and taught us how to make.
I remember watching Jeopardy with you and being in awe of how intelligent you were.
I remember you playing our birthdays for the “lotto” and you heading to Bingo or AC.
I remember you correcting my English (sorry Mim, I do not take after you in this and Mom still corrects me to this day lol).
I remember you teaching me my first French words and giving me a yearning to learn the language. You taught me to “femme la bouche”, “shut my mouth” and I got there.
I remember your strength through life teaching all of us to be strong and independent.
I remember the love you had for our family and that even if there wasn’t a way you would find a way.
I remember the face and tone you would give when you needed me to know you meant business.
I remember your laugh, your smile, you kisses and your embrace.
I remember you meeting Walter and Bella and Hunter Lyn and the joy it brought you.
I remember our last visit a few weeks ago that was such a blessing and our last phone call even most recent where you still remembered us in those beautiful moments.
I remember your faith and I know you are with the Lord shining down upon us know.
I remember you Mimi and I will carry these memories with me until we meet again in Heaven. Thank for being the best grandmother and great grandmother my whole life through. Thank you being the leader of this family. I love you Mimi and I look forward to our reunion in Heaven.
Philippians 1:21 “For me to live is Christ, to die is gain.” Our loss is your enteral gain my beautiful grandmother. How loved you are.

Memories as a young child of the many sleepovers we shared with our cousins! Almost every weekend!
We were suppose to be sleeping but oh the shenanigans we had! Aunt Sandy would pop her head in and without harsh words and say “Get to bed girls” again and again!
As I write this, I’m smiling as a recall the many fun times and the enormous love and care that Aunt Sandy had given us,
I’ve always told her she was like a second mother to me. She would take my face and say I Love you and I would say I love you more!
Two years ago was her last Christmas Eve she was able to share in with the family.
We spent time sharing lots of hugs and kisses. At that time, this terrible disease, had already began to take our dear Aunt from us.
These are the moments I will always remember and cherish forever...,.
Heaven welcomed a beautiful soul.....
Aunt Sandy will never be forgotten and will remain in my heart forever..,,.
Love you with all my heart.....,
Niece, Donna Omelio
