South Plainfield – Joan Phelps, 85, passed away Friday, January 17, 2020 at JFK Medical Center in Edison.
Born in Newark to the late Walter and Olga (Devosa) Zitniak, Joan resided in Irvington before settling to South Plainfield in 1958. She received her undergrad from NYU, the furthering her education at Rutgers University; where she received her Master’s degree in library science.
Prior to retirement, Joan was the librarian in the South Plainfield Public Library.
Predeceased by her husband who died in January 2019, Henry F. Phelps; surviving are her two children Diane Hermann and husband Walter of South Plainfield and Keith Phelps and wife Robin of Bethel, PA; two grandchildren, Paul and Amanda Hermann and three great grandchildren, Daniel, Sarah and Emily.
Currently all services for Joan are private and under the direction of the funeral home.
