Obituary of Daniel T. Farrell

Daniel Thomas Farrell, 89, known to many as “Mickey” passed away on Thursday, January 2, 2020 at Haven Hospice located within JFK Medical Center in Edison. Born in Brooklyn, NY to the late Thomas and Florence (Smith) Farrell, Mickey moved to Staten Island in 1986 and settled to South Plainfield in 1997. During the Korean War, Mickey served his country proudly in the United States Marine Corp from 1947 – 1951 as a Sergeant. He worked throughout his life with the New York City Transit Authority, retiring in a management position with dispatch. Mickey was a member of the South Plainfield American Legion and VFW, belonged to the Disabled American Veterans as well as the Marine Corp League. He enjoyed time in the kitchen cooking and when it came to arts and craft, he had a great talent and was extremely creative. Predeceased by his wife Anne in 2004, Mickey leaves behind four children; James and his wife Tricia of South Plainfield, Kathryn V. and Anne E. Farrell, both of Brooklyn, NY and Daniel T. Jr., of Deer Park, NY. He is also survived by five grandchildren; Victoria, Danielle, Dina, GraceAnne and Anthony as well as two great-granddaughters; Mia and Khloe. Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 5, 2020 at McCriskin-Gustafson Home for Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ 07080 from 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm. Concluding prayers and military services will begin at 4:30 pm. Graveside services and military honors will be held on Monday, January 6, 2020 at Calverton National Cemetery in Calverton, NY at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations sent to the Disabled American Veterans (www.dav.org) or to the South Plainfield American Legion would be appreciated.
