Age: 93 * Middlesex
Middlesex, NJ – Maria Alonso de Marroquin, 93, passed away peacefully at her residence with her family at her bedside on Friday, August 30, 2019. Born in Chiquimula, Guatemala to the late Braulio and Mercedes (Alonso) Borja, Maria lived most of her life in Guatemala. She immigrated to the United States in 1986 until returning home in 1999. As she aged and became ill, Maria returned to Middlesex in 2010 to reside with her daughter.
Maria spent her entire life dedicated to her family. She was a cheese maker since childhood, loved cooking and made the best chocobananos, ice cream and arroz en leche. In Guatemala, she owned and operated a tortilla business for over thirty years.
She was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother and great-mother all through her life. She had a great heart that opened her home to anyone in need. Despite having a very rough upbringing as a child, she never gave up and always kept going. An orphan at nine years old, she overcame her struggles in life and raised seven children, put them through school and gave them all the love in the world.
Maria was predeceased by her husband Jose A. Marroquin, her daughters Rosita and Olivia, great-granddaughter Isabella Konysz and two siblings; Ilario and Guadalupe Borja.
She leaves behind her loving and devoted family; children, Victor Albanes (Yolanda) of Elizabeth, Mario Rolando Alonso also of Elizabeth, Odilia Marroquin of South Bound Brook, Mercedes Konysz (Thaddeus) also of South Bound Brook, Jose A. Marroquin of Dunellen and Elida A. Marroquin of Middlesex.
Maria will be missed deeply by her grandchildren; Adaljisa, Byron, Jennifer, Kenneth, Carlos, Julio, Anthony, Christopher, Christina, Paul Joseph, Josselyn, Joseph, Alejandra, Jonathan and Eric, great-grandchildren; Charley, Hazel, Baby Bailie, Austin, Cassandra, Carter, Christopher, Aja’s, Mai Keity, Brianna, Alianni, Berenice and Zabdy.
Visitation will take place on Tuesday, September 3, 2019 from 5-9 pm and on Wednesday, September 4, 2019 beginning 8:00 am at Middlesex Funeral Home, 528 Bound Brook Road, Middlesex, NJ 08846.
On Wednesday, September 4, 2019, a 9:30 am funeral mass will take place at Our Lady of Mount Virgin Church in Middlesex followed by burial at Resurrection Burial Park in Piscataway.
