Obituary of Mary Ellen Nissen
Edison, NJ – Mary Ellen (Simmons) Nissen, 60, passed away suddenly on July 8, 2019 at her vacation home in Cape Cod. Born in Bronx, NY to the late Joseph F. and Ann Bridget (Coffey) Simmons, Mary Ellen moved to Middlesex in 1960. After graduating high school, Mary Ellen lived in Bridgewater until her marriage in 1997, where she then settled to Edison with her husband Mike.
Mary Ellen’s career as a production support specialist involved working at AT&T and NCS Technologies for over 40 years. Mary Ellen enjoyed spending time at their vacation home in Cape Cod. She treasured all the activities with family and friends including all the good times down the Jersey Shore. Mary Ellen liked going on fishing trips and the many Irish related family and friend functions.
She was an avid sports fan, especially when it came to baseball and football. She also liked to bike ride, walk on the beach and spend time with her dogs. Mary Ellen loved music and attending concerts and took great pride in creating many flower and vegetable gardens. Whenever she could, Mary Ellen would escape and enjoy traveling domestically and internationally.
Mary Ellen is survived by her loving husband Michael J. Nissen, her brother Joseph Simmons of Howell, NJ, sister Ann Marie Rose and her husband Richard of The Villages, FL and her brother Michael Simmons and his wife Carrie of Smyrna, Georgia. She also leaves behind her nephew Sean M. Simmons and his wife Erin of San Mateo, CA, niece Erin A. Simmons of San Diego, CA, nephew Nathaniel J. Simmons of Smyrna, GA, great-nephew James R. Simmons of San Mateo, CA, brother-in-law Jon Nissen and his wife Amy of Washington, NJ, sister-in-law Pamela Nissen and her husband Gary of North Hollywood, CA and her nephew and niece Matthew and Jessica Nissen, both of Washington, NJ.
Along with several loving cousins and extended family, Mary Ellen will be deeply missed by all of her close friends.
A Memorial visitation honoring Mary Ellen will be held on Thursday, August 1, 2019 from 5-8pm at the Middlesex Funeral Home, 528 Bound Brook Road, Middlesex, NJ 08846. A religious service concluding the gathering will be held beginning 7:30 pm.
