Obituary of Margaret B. Smith

Margaret B. ( Crowley ) Smith, of South Plainfield, died on January 14, 2019 at her home surrounded by the love of her family. Born and raised in New Brunswick, NJ to the late Charles and Margaret Crowley (nee Concannon), she went on to attend Ryder College Business School. She worked as a secretary during World War II at Camp Kilmer in Piscataway. After her marriage to the late John J. Smith, she settled to South Plainfield in 1953 where she dedicated her life to raising her family. As a devout catholic, Margaret was a long time, faithful communicant of The Church of The Sacred Heart in South Plainfield and a member of their Altar Rosary Society. In addition, she is a member of the Third Order of Our Lady of Carmel. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Joseph Smith in 1988. Surviving are her six children, Margaret A. Schaeffer, John J. Jr., Thomas C. and wife Carol, Edward P., Joseph M. and wife Annette, Michael J. and wife Mary Ann, her cherished grandchildren, Michael and wife Tiffany, Laura, Elaine and husband Michael, and Amanda and husband Dave, and Thomas, and her great grandchildren, Isabella, Angelina, Anthony, James, Vita, Neela, Thea, Nicholas, Lexie, Harrison, Charlie, Joey, and Katie. Funeral services will begin at 9:00AM on Friday, January 18, 2019 at the McCriskin-Gustafson Home for Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated following at 10:00AM at The Church of The Sacred Heart, South Plainfield. Interment will follow at Resurrection Burial Park, Piscataway. Family and friends are welcome to gather for visitation from 5:00 to 8:00PM on Thursday, January 17, 2019 at the funeral home.
