Obituary of Paul Visoskas

Paul Visoskas, 66, of Piscataway, passed away peacefully on October 24, 2018 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick. Born and raised in Newark, NJ to the late Frank and Rose Visoskas, he went on to become a pillar of the community, dedicating 40 years to the City of Newark in Emergency Medical Services. He began his career in 1976 as an EMT for the former Martland Hospital, now University Hospital, in Newark. In 1990 he was promoted from EMT to EMS Supervisor and served over 25 years as Tour Chief. Paul reported to his last shift on November 30, 2016 as the University Hospital EMS Supervisor #401 before beginning his retirement. Paul was recognized as a fierce union leader for the NAGE/IAEP. In 1993 he headed a team of influential first responders for a collective bargaining agreement and made UMDNJ EMS Supervisors joining NAGE a reality, forming the first local of IAEP Region 2. He was elected Local President of IAEP Local 200 in 1996 and served the post for over 20 years. Paul was a force to be reckoned with, refusing to retire until he saw through a new contract was signed and a new executive board was elected. Even when he was sick during negotiations he asked to be video called in from his hospital bed, never giving up on his commitment to the union and the EMS industry. Paul settled to Piscataway 25 years ago, serving North Stelton Volunteer Fire and EMS with the same devotion he gave to Newark and UMDNJ. He enjoyed attending the EMS Conventions and trips to Atlantic City and the Sands. He was a consummate civil servant, setting the precedent for leadership in the EMS community and who's legacy will live on in the foundation set by his work. Surviving are his loving spouse of 30 years, Vincenzo Laudando, his extended family, and his entire EMT/EMS community. Family and friends are welcome to gather for visitation on Sunday, October 28, 2018 from 1:00 to 5:00pm at the Piscataway Funeral Home, 18 Stelton Road, Piscataway. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00AM on Monday, October 29, 2018 at St. Frances Cabrini R.C. Church in Piscataway. Family and friends are welcome to gather at the funeral home prior to mass at 9:00AM Entombment will follow at Hollywood Memorial Park, Union.
