Middlesex, NJ - Bernadette E. (Harkins) DeNick, 91, passed away with her family at her side at Bridgeway Care Center in Bridgewater on May 24, 2016. Born in Bristol, PA to her late parents Hugh and Marie (McCaffrey) Harkins, she lived in Hazleton, PA until moving to Burbank, CA in 1947. In 1968, Bernadette and her husband Frank settled to Middlesex to raise their family.
She retired from Vogel's Clothing Store formerly of Somerville where she worked in the sales department. She was an avid golfer and a former member of Fox Hollow Golf Course. She enjoyed bingo, watching and listening to sports and in her earlier years, enjoyed playing cards.
Predeceased by her husband Frank in 1970, son-in-law Mike Pugliese in 2008 and four siblings; William, Mary, Rose and Hugh, Bernadette leaves behind her loving children; Donna Pugliese of Raritan, Mary Rutkowski and her husband Ken of Middlesex, Angelo DeNick and his wife Valerie of Livingston and Frank DeNick and his wife Jill of Middlesex. Bernadette is also survived by her sister Annette Hendry of Florida, twelve grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and a special niece, Kara Cole of Branchburg.
Visitation will take place in Middlesex Funeral Home, 528 Bound Brook Road, Middlesex, NJ 08846 on Thursday, May 26, 2016 from 5-8pm and on Friday, May 27, 2016 from 8:45 am until 9:15 am.
Funeral services will begin 9:15am in the funeral home on Friday, May 27, 2016 followed by a 10:00 am Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Virgin Parish in Middlesex. Bernadette will be laid to rest beside her husband in the family plot of Resurrection Burial Park in Piscataway.
