Obituary of Ekaterini Alexopoulos

Ekaterini Alexopoulos, 91, of Middlesex passed away on Friday, May 16, 2014 in her home surrounded by her loving family.Ekaterini was born in Ayios Nikolaos, Kalavryton, Greece on March 29, 1923. She spent her childhood and early adult years helping to raise her 5 younger siblings. She married Alexandros Alexopoulos on February 28, 1952. They were married for 62 years.Ekaterini moved to the United States in 1970 and lived in North Plainfield for six years before moving to Middlesex. She worked at her brother's diner, as a seamstress making curtains and at a greenhouse before retiring to help raise her grandchildren.Ekaterini is survived by her husband Alexandros, her daughter Eleni and son-in-law Konstantinos, two granddaughters, Kathy and her husband Jason, and Maria, and one great-granddaughter Alexandra. She is also survived by two sisters; Panayiola in Greece and Maria in Australia. Ekaterini was predeceased by her two brothers; Vasilios and Theodoros and one sister Vasiliki.Funeral services will begin Tuesday 9:00 am at the Middlesex Funeral Home, 528 Bound Brook Rd., followed by a 10:00 am funeral liturgy at the St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Piscataway. Interment will be in the Bound Brook Cemetery. Visitation hours are Monday from 5:00 to 9:00 at the funeral home.
